I’ve always had some flexibility with work. Yes, technically I worked 40 hours a week for a few years, but for the majority of that time I either worked from home or could flex some of my hours when I had to go into the office. But after quitting my job in December and working for myself full-time, I realized the importance of having some level of structure is to being productive.
I noticed that the days where I didn’t *technically* have to do anything, I was more likely to lay on the couch all day scrolling through TikTok with Gossip Girl playing in the background. Granted, some of that was much needed rest after feeling burnt out from work, but I knew that I needed to build some level of structure into my workday. And if all of that scrolling through TikTok did anything, it helped me find a genius way to structure my work week!
I’ve been using this structure loosely for the last three weeks and it’s been so fascinating seeing how my body naturally responds. Usually I have a burst of creative energy between 7:30am and 10am and then a lull most of the afternoon until 3:30pm when I get another creative burst until 7:00pm! I’ve been allowing myself to just rest during the day and it hasn’t disappointed so far.
But without further ado, here’s how I structure my week!
Behind the Scenes days are the days where I get all of my tasks done that don’t require me to be “on” or talk with other people. Right now in my business, this looks like:
On Stage days are the days where I am “on” aka where I record videos/audio, meet with clients, and have discovery calls. Right now in my business, this looks like:
Strategy days are the days where I get to reflect on my business. Right now, this looks like:
Here’s how my week is structured…
Monday: Behind the Scenes Day
Tuesday: On Stage Day
Wednesday: Strategy Day
Thursday: Behind the Scenes Day
Friday: On Stage Day
In addition to this, I adopted a strategy from the Full Focus Planner and I created a morning routine, workday startup ritual, workday shutdown ritual, and evening ritual. It has been SO helpful because without that structure, I think I’d work at all hours of the day and that is a fast track to burnout!
